The much-anticipated MLB The Show 23 was officially launched on the PS5, PS4, Xbox, and Switch platforms on March 28, 2023. In this game, you can experience an exciting and interesting baseball game with your favorite players.
When speak of MLB The Show 23, the age-old question is how do we start the game? What do you do in Diamond Dynasty? So, in this article, I’m going to talk about every little thing that you can do in the game from the beginning and what I personally will be doing and what I would recommend to you or any sort of new player coming into the game.
World Baseball Classic
Let’s get right into the first tip of how to start an MLB the Show Diamond Dynasty.
*The first thing you’re going to want to look at are the World Baseball Classic cards. Now, it looks like these cards are probably going to end up being the first program we see in MLB the Show 23.
But as you can see right here, at the beginning there are three 99 Overall cards coming out of this game. We have the 99 Francisco Lindor, which is always a great card. We have the 99 Airbender Devin Williams, which is always a nasty card and will probably end up being an end game card. We also have Munataka Murakami in the game. As a 99 Overall card, this card will smash baseballs.
Again, all three of these cards are going to be completely worth it to get early on in the game and ultimately going through this World Baseball Classic. There’s also a 99 Trey Turner that they just announced, and these cards look amazing.
Another card added as a 99 is Roki Sasaki. This card again looks really good, especially at the beginning part of the game. He’s going to probably have outlier on that fastball and possibly even the Sinker. But even then, just across the board, his stats look really good and it’s definitely somebody that you want to get early on.
There are other good cards or what I think will end up being good cards in the World Baseball Classic cards that aren’t 99 Overalls. but I do feel like anything above a 90 plus Overall especially in the beginning part of the game is such an important thing to have on your team especially if you want to build around your players.
Now, I don’t think these cards are going to be available to sell at least for the high Overall cards. However, if you are able to sell them and they will be going for a lot, especially in the first month or so in the game when they’re very sought after.
So, if you want to have a quick stubs count if you get one of those guys super early on you could sell them for probably close to 500,000 or more MLB The Show 23 Stubs and that puts you to a really good start towards the live series collection.
Team Affinity
*Another thing you’ll need to do early in the game is to get the new captain cards exclusive to MLB the Show 23.
Although, these cards are not as good as 99 Overall cards, but they are still very important. This is because they can help to improve the statistics of other players in your lineup.
As you can see Aaron Judge here. Although we don’t see his boost on the card itself, there likely will be some sort of power boost that he would give for a certain type of player, whether it is being a Yankees player or whether it’s a player of the Outfield, whatever, it may be having judge in your lineup or on your team will end up boosting other players stats to make the team overall better.
One thing I like that this adds to is it allows you to have some type of theme team, like if you want to run an all Yankees theme team, there’s finally somewhat of an incentive to actually do so and you might be able to keep up with the type of God Squad if everyone’s numbers are being boosted.
This is a Team Affinity, which means every single team will have a captain card if you want to do one of your favorite team or if you need a particular type of player, by all means, this is mostly going to be up to you.
I don’t have the attributes yet, so I can’t say which one will end up being the best. However, any one of these cards, at least for AL East, could probably get the job done. But usually, I would probably think that people are either gonna pick in this case Aaron Judge, Adley or Chris Sale.
There are other cards and other divisions that also have their pros and cons, but again ultimately it’s up to you to as to what kind of boost you want to see or if you just want to pick your favorite team.
Another set to go after early on is going to be the Charisma Series. This is another type of Team Affinity, meaning every single team will have one and it’s something that you’re going to have to work towards.
But every single one of these cards is going to be amazing early on in the game. As you can see, they are all 97 Overalls and early on in the game, that is a massive number.
We have a list of great players or favorite players from these teams. Every single player on this list right here for the AL East will absolutely smash again. Just like the other Team Affinity, every team will have one. You can kind of set it to how you think you would like it, how you they would work in your lineup or you could just go with your favorite teams, Team Affinity player or whatever may work for you.
Now ultimately, these cards, like a set, are really good things to have early on. At lot of times, if we base it off of old games (such as using the second Team Affinities with a third Team Affinities together), you will actually get a heading start. So, your old Team Affinity cards will be your prerequisite to move on.
Above is something that you should keep tabs on because when the developers start releasing like the really good 99 Overalls in Team Affinity, you might not be able to keep up with other players.
What Should You Play First?
What should I play first to obtain a good team?
Below is the thing that you should be playing early on, especially when the game just launches or offline modes. If there are Conquest maps that give you a good amount of MLB Stubs or a high amount of packs, do as many of those as you can. The same goes for moments. There are moments that work towards other programs. Also, there are moments that give you awards just strictly alone.
There is also always the starter collection, which is very easy to do. You will have a chance to collect a certain amount of skins, a certain amount of players, a certain amount of unlockables or whatever it may be. But there’s about 10 of these, if you get maybe 200 to 500 MLB 23 Stubs per. That ends up adding up to a decent amount. You could use them to buy at least some lower players to improve your team.
I do not recommend playing ranked or events until your team is at least a mostly Diamond team. For me, I will not be playing ranked until my team is entirely Diamond for my lineup and mostly Diamond for my pitching.
My reasoning for that is that now we have a lot of high 90 Overall cards in the game early on. I do want to at least feel like I’m having some sort of punch. I don’t want to be able to put up the best team that I can before I go into a ranked setting now.
Even so, when we are offline, we can still do things like Mini Seasons, Conquest and Showdown to build our team. Among them, Conquest is very important in the early game.
So, if you are an offline player, you should definitely do this and before you go into online. But if you want to be able to build your team up as much as you possibly can and you want to be able to buy MLB 23 Stubs as you can, you can go out and buy better players now.
*BR is another thing that you should consider when you are playing early on in the game is. The BR program is very rewarding to you and offers a lot of incentive for playing early on.
As you can see, you can get MLB 23 Stubs, packs and so on. These cards sell for a lot. They help you out with collections. Later on, you get Headliner packs. As you go through, obviously, the rewards get better.
Ultimately, you can keep these the players you get and build around them on your team. However, these players always go for a lot of MLB 23 Stubs, especially early on in the game. If you’re able to get them very quickly and sell them for a very high amount of Stubs, ultimately that would probably be a really good way to set you up and especially it’ll put you forward in the live series collection.
Importance Of The Live Series Collection
Speaking of that Live Series Collection, that should be your main goal.
The live series collection, like I said this should be your main goal in the first couple months of the game up until the other collection starts to open up a little.
Now, these cards not only do they give you a good card for every single team that you go through. But as you collect the divisions and ultimately the leagues, they apply to probably some of the best cards you’ll see of the game this year.
As we all remember this year, we had Randy Johnson, who was an absolute maniac and honestly is still usable in March 2023. The card, Chipper Jones, which once appeared in MLB The Show 21 will still be used in March as well.
So, if you’re able to get these players early, just buy MLB 23 Stubs directly and buy those really high Overall cards, ultimately that’s going to be a really good thing for you. Because it’s going to allow you to actually move on and progress as the game goes on and it helps you have the best team possible.
One thing I do want to mention about the Live Series Collection is that Fernando Tatis Jr may not be in the collection for the first couple weeks of the season.
So, if there’s any team that you’re going to get done first, I would recommend doing the Padres like I said because of his suspension. I don’t know if he’s going to be in the collection at the beginning couple weeks. Developers took him out when he got suspended last season. But we don’t know how he’s going to look if he’s not there on day one. Get the Padres done as fast as you possibly can.
Do Not Buy Packs
Speaking of storing MLB 23 Stubs as enticing as it may be, but do not buy packs.
Generally speaking, packs are a waste of time. The odds are against you when it comes to buying the packs. If you get packs from missions, that is outstanding. That’s exactly what you want to go for because, technically speaking, you’re not spending anything to get them.
But when you’re spending your MLB 23 Stubs for sale to get packs, ultimately you’re going to end up losing prof of it, unless you have a very small chance of pulling a player like Mike Trout or Aaron Judge, which ultimately being able to pull maybe two to three players out of a couple hundred. The odds are very much against you.
When Is It Time To Play Ranked Seasons?
But as you start to accumulate some good players and you start to want to progress into online modes, rank seasons and events are going to be the way for you. If you want to go towards events and they have decent rewards in there, by all means, go for it.
Events are usually a pretty fun laid-back way to get rewards and kind of progress yourself in the game where now we also have ranked co-ops if you and a friend want to go in with your teams and play other people. That is also an option. You can get the World Series as a ranked team, which is an outstanding thing to add to this game.
Should I Sell My Legends?
One thing is really important is trying to keep as many as the cards as you can.
Now, try to have some sort of prediction as to who may go up and who may go down in price. But if you remember last season, George Brett was the first Legends and Flashbacks Collection that we had now. This card again is one of those cards that you still see now at this point in the game.
I love this card more than most cards in this game and ultimately you don’t want to put yourself in a bad spot when this card first drops. So, if you don’t sell a lot of your Legends in Flashbacks or if you hold on to those players when they first announce, the Legends in Flashbacks Collection that puts you in a really good spot.
Hopefully, you won’t have to buy anybody. But you will at least have to buy a lot less than you normally would, which ultimately can cost you millions of MLB 23 Stubs. The way to win is in your hands!
